Frequent readers of this blog know that I have dedicated Tunes Tuesdays posts between now and the election to songs about politics and social issues. The past month’s Tunes Tuesday’s have been dedicated to this, with songs including, That’s Just the Way It Is, What It’s Like, and Christmastime in Washington.This week, I am reviving a golden oldy that feels as relevant today as when it first came out.
There is no question that the Presidential election is going to hinge on people’s perception of which candidate will be able to improve the economy.
With that in mind, I bring you this week’s Tunes Tuesday pick, 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton. While this may not seem like a political song, it explores the most fundamental issue in the current political discourse.

You make me feel old when you call this a ‘golden oldie’, as I remember watching the movie and singing along to the music when it first came out! I was barely out of my teens. Well, I guess I can’t really complain – I listen to ‘the oldies’ radio stations all the time because they really do play the best music! Hope your other readers will appreciate the song. 🙂

I think it’s tricky to pick a ‘primary’ issue, because so many issues are interrelated–jobs, the economy, health care–even contraception and abortion, because unplanned pregnancies may increase the need for entitlement programs like Medicaid and food stamps. I get annoyed when people refer to these as ‘women’s issues.’ They are everybody’s issues because the outcomes affect everyone.

Great analogy. People just want to have a comfortable living and do their job. They do not need to be as rich as Romney. We need to give them that chance and not take it away.
