Greetings and Happy Holidays from Baltimore! For this Tunes Tuesday, I am highlighting one inspirational holiday song, and one song to give a giggle. I hope you and yours have a relaxing holiday season, filled with laughter and love.

My Grownup Christmas List
David Foster

Do you remember me
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you
With childhood fantasies

Well, I’m all grown up now
And still need help somehow
I’m not a child
But my heart still can dream

So here’s my lifelong wish
My grown up christmas list
Not for myself
But for a world in need

No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
and wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end
This  is my grown up christmas list

As children we believed
The grandest sight to see
Was something lovely
Wrapped beneath our tree

Well heaven only knows
That packages and bows
Can never heal
A hurting human soul

No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end
This is my grown up christmas
list

What is this illusion called the innocence of youth
Maybe only in our blind belief can we ever find the truth
(there’d be)

No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all
hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, oh
This is my grown up christmas list

This is my grown up christmas list

And for a little Baltimore hospitality and charm, I Want Crabs for Christmas. I couldn’t find the lyrics to this one or it would have gotten top billing here, no questions asked. I hope you’ll take a minute to check it out.

And Merry Christmas!!

What do you think? Is there a local favorite Christmas song in your town? What is it? What is your favorite Christmas song that won’t get out of your head this time of year?

I admit it – this song is not exactly poetic. But I wanted to feature a holiday song and it seems that there are not a lot of holiday songs that are lyrical masterpieces.

This song is from the movie Love Actually. If you haven’t seen this movie, rent it tonight. It is the perfect mix of humor, emotion and festivity, without being too sacchariney sweet. We watch it every year to get into the holiday mood and it never fails to lift our spirits and get us ready for the season.

Be sure to watch the youtube clip below!

Chistmas is All Around Us
Billy Mack, Love Actually

I feel it in my fingers,
I feel it in my toes,
Christmas is all around me,
and so the feeling grows

It’s written in the wind,
It’s everywhere I go,
So if you really love Christmas,
C’mon and let it snow?

You know I love Christmas
I always will
My mind’s made up
The way that I feel
There’s no beginning
There’ll be no end
Cuz on Christmas,
You can depend

You gave your presents to me
And I gave mine to you
I need Santa beside me
In everything I do

You know I love Christmas
I always will
My mind’s made up
The way that I feel
There’s no beginning
There’ll be no end
Cuz on Christmas,
You can depend

Cuz on Christmas,
You can depend

It’s written on the wind
It’s everywhere I go
So if you really love me
C’mon and let it snow?
C’mon and let it snow?
So if you really love
C’mon and let it
If you really love me
C’mon and let it
Now if you really love me
C’mon and let it snow?

What do you think? What is your favorite holiday movie? Why? What are your favorite holiday songs? Which holiday songs have the best lyrics, in your opinion?

I woud love to hear your thoughts. Thank you for reading!

Panda Appreciation Week: This One Goes Out to My Mother, The World’s Biggest Panda Lover

Did you know that it is Panda Appreciation Week? I just found out and had to share!

My family has a very special place in our hearts for Panda Bears. My mother loves Panda Bears – they are by far her favorite animal.

Growing up in Baltimore, we frequently drove to the National Zoo in Washington, DC to visit these beautiful creatures. My sister and I felt that Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing were personal friends.

When I read the news that Hsing-Hsing passed away in 1999, I couldn’t help shedding a few tears. When I mentioned this to my sister, she simply said “Those panda bears were a big part of our childhood.”

We moved into an old Baltimore row house that was skinny and long, like all Baltimore row houses, when I was about 6 years old. The house had a lot of character, not that I understood that at that age.

There was one room in the house that had panda bear wallpaper and that magical room was going to be my bedroom! I distinctly remember the first night in the house, and for many nights to come, falling asleep counting the pandas on the wall.

Pandas were a big part of our childhood.

For many years, Christmases with my family involved spending time with our grandparents. Grandparents, I am fortunate to be able to say, were a big part of our adulthood.

But in 2007, our last remaining grandparents passed away and my mother decided that we should start a tradition of taking a special outing when my sister and I were home for the holidays.

Of course, the first trip we took was to Washington, DC to visit the next generation of Panda Bears.

In honor of Panda Appreciation Week, I wanted to share a few photos from that visit, as well as some media coverage of this important celebration.

What do you think? Do you have any special family memories and traditions like these that you would like to share? Have you ever seen a Panda Bear? What did you notice was different about these bears?

I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you for reading.
